Elisha Keen is a 23 year old singer songwriter from Sydney. She is working her way through a double degree of Music/Arts (Philosophy), hoping to finish in 2009. She is a teacher with Australian Music Schools, as well as a private singing teacher, and she sings in a female a capella group called Martini Quartet. Among her influences are Jewel, Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, Katie Noonan and Ani DiFranco. She believes that the lyrics of a song are its backbone and strives to always write from her own experiences.
She has been writing lyrics since highschool, and started writing songs when she dusted off her mother's old guitar and learnt enough chords to be able to sing and play Let It Be at the same time. It was an epiphany. Until this year she was pretty used to going it alone with her original material gigs, however has found a new satisfaction in leaving the instruments to the instrumentalists and focusing solely on her singing. She hopes to keep writing songs and playing live for the time being, and plans to launch further into Sydney's live music scene once her degree is completed. |
